The Training Department has officially launched the IDeAL-KWTRP Scholars’ Community, a scholar-led initiative designed to foster connection, mentorship, and professional growth across academic levels. The idea was proposed by Dolapo Olugbile, an MSc Immunology student, in response to the need for stronger peer support and interdisciplinary engagement.
The Scholars’ Community provides a structured platform where fellows can share experiences, overcome challenges, and grow collectively. Through defined leadership roles and active committees like academic research, welfare, and career development, the initiative encourages broad participation to cultivate leadership skills among members.
During the inaugural meeting, scholars discussed strategies for sustainability, including personal contributions, alumni engagement, and external collaborations. A proposal to establish a Wellness and Mental Health Committee received strong support, affirming the importance of scholar well-being alongside academic progress.
Prof. Kinyanjui commended the initiative and reaffirmed the department’s commitment to supporting scholars through mentorship, administrative facilitation, and, where possible, financial assistance for community-led activities.
The launch of the Scholars’ Community marks a significant step toward building a more collaborative, engaged, and empowered research environment one that values shared learning, holistic development, and the leadership potential of emerging African scientists.
