Stephen Kuria

PhD Fellow, KEMRI-Wellcome Trust Research Programme

Stephen Kuria is a Bioinformatician with expertise in Biomedical Sciences, Biotechnology, and Bioinformatics. He holds a BSc in Biomedical Sciences and Technology from Egerton University, an MSc in Biotechnology from Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology (JKUAT), and an MSc in Bioinformatics from Pwani University in collaboration with the University of Milano-Bicocca, Italy.

His research interests lie at the intersection of bioinformatics and computational biology, focusing on deriving insights from biological data to improve health outcomes. Currently, he is engaged in characterising the antibody repertoire in sub-Saharan African populations. His work aims to describe the frequencies and characteristics of both naïve and vaccine-induced antibodies of various HIV-specific broadly neutralizing antibody classes in both healthy individuals and people living with HIV (PLWH). This research is crucial in informing the development of regionally effective HIV vaccines.

Beyond research, Stephen is passionate about leveraging bioinformatics to address pressing health challenges and contribute to the advancement of precision medicine in Africa.
