Samson Otiso

Masters in Immunology

Samson Otiso is an MSc Bioinformatics student at Pwani University in the School of Pure and Applied Sciences. He holds a Bachelor’s degree in Medical Laboratory Sciences from Kenyatta University. He later joined Pwani University to pursue a Postgraduate Diploma in Health Research Methods under full sponsorship from the IDeAL program. Subsequently, he secured a full scholarship under the same program to undertake a Master’s degree in Bioinformatics at Pwani University.

During his postgraduate diploma, he conducted a research project at the KEMRI-Wellcome Trust Research Programme, focusing on antigen discovery in Plasmodium falciparum infection to inform the design of next-generation malaria vaccines. This work was carried out under the supervision of Prof. Melissa Kapulu and Dr. Rodney Ogwang.

His research interests are centered on understanding host–pathogen interactions, particularly how the immune system responds to infectious diseases affecting young children. He is especially interested in identifying correlates of protection that can guide the development of next-generation vaccines.
