I am a PhD fellow at the KEMRI-Wellcome Trust Research Programme, under the Initiative to Develop African Research Leaders (IDeAL), in collaboration with Duke, Moi and Oxford Universities. My PhD project focuses on understanding the role of memory B cells in the acquisition of variant antigen-specific antibodies in malaria. Specifically, I will explore the impact of age and prior Plasmodium falciparum exposure on memory B cell responses, and whether these responses differ between individuals with symptomatic and asymptomatic infections. This PhD work is supervised by Prof. Francis Ndungu, Prof. Steve Taylor, Dr. Christine Markwalter and Dr. Abdirahman Abdi.
Previously, I conducted my MSc research at the KEMRI-Wellcome Trust Research Programme, funded by IDeAL. I examined changes in antibody titres to P. falciparum antigens during acute malaria infection and over a 24-week convalescent period, providing insights into the longevity of antibody responses following an acute malaria episode.
I hold a Master of Science in Biotechnology and a Bachelor of Science in Biochemistry from the University of Nairobi.
