Masters in Immunology Fellow
Nasra Kendi Hamisi is a passionate emerging scientist pursuing a Master of Science in Immunology at Pwani University, Kenya. She holds a Bachelor’s degree in Microbiology from the same institution, where she cultivated a deep interest in understanding the immune system and its interplay with nutrition, the gut microbiome and disease progression.
During her attachment at the KEMRI-Wellcome Trust, Nasra’s passion for Immunology deepened significantly, inspiring her to advance her career in this field. Upon completion of her undergraduate studies, she successfully secured a Master’s scholarship in Immunology, under the Initiative to Develop African Research Leaders (IDeAl)- a capacity building initiative hosted at KWRRP.
Her current research project focuses on assessing the impact of severe anemia on immune cell function, reflecting her dedication to improving nutrition as a means to enhance immune health. This work supports her broader goal of promoting nutritional interventions that strengthen immune responses, especially in vulnerable populations across Sub-Saharan Africa.
Nasra has gained valuable hands-on experience with advanced diagnostic technologies, including flow cytometry, Bactec, and MALDI-TOF systems during her attachment. Beyond her scientific endeavors, she is committed to continuous personal growth, currently honing her skills in R programming and research methodologies and learning Spanish.
Driven and collaborative, Nasra aspires to contribute to the development of innovative, locally relevant health solutions and become a leader in African biomedical research.
