I am a master’s fellow at the KEMRI-Wellcome Trust Research Programme in Nairobi. I am dedicated to advancing Maternal and Child Health Research through support from IDeAL (Initiative to Develop African Research Leaders). My daily responsibilities include developing and reviewing mixed methods research protocols and instruments, participating in targeted skills development courses in both quantitative and qualitative research methods, and conducting data collection in hospital settings using tools such as REDCap to carry out surveys, conducting in-depth interviews, and mapping patient journeys.
Recently, I have completed training in research methods at the Centre for Geographic Medicine Research (Kilifi), as well as in qualitative research methods at Strathmore University. I have also undertaken courses in data analysis software, specifically R and NVivo, at KWTRP (Nairobi). Additionally, I focus on data cleaning and analysis, manuscript development, and presenting findings to various technical research audiences and stakeholders within the maternal-child health sector.
My work is part of the Maternal and Newborn Health (MNH) E-cohort study under the Quality Evidence for Health System Transformation (QuEST) network. Currently, I am exploring practices during postnatal care contacts, health professionals’ experiences, and their competencies in relation to the comprehensive postnatal care needs of a mother-neonate dyad. Understanding these factors is crucial for enhancing the support systems available to mothers and newborns during this critical period, as well as for generating quality evidence for maternal and child health care practices.
I would like you to look out for my future publications, which will encourage thoughts and provide valuable insights into improving postnatal care practices and outcomes.
