Margaret is a public health nutritionist with a Bachelor of Science in Human Nutrition and Dietetics awarded by Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology and is currently pursuing a Master of Science in Human Nutrition and Dietetics at Kabarak University. She is an Initiative to Develop African Leaders (IDeAL) master’s fellow at the KEMRI-Wellcome Trust Research Programme (KWTRP), Kilifi. She is passionate about promoting scientific evidence in policy decision-making to improve maternal, adolescent, infant, and young child nutrition.
Her current research focuses on the determinants of dietary patterns and nutrient intake determinants among nonpregnant women enrolled in the Virutubisho study. The Virutubisho study is a Phase 2b dose-finding pharmacokinetic (PK) trial to determine the optimal dosing of multiple micronutrient supplements (MMS) to correct micronutrient deficiencies among women of reproductive age in Kilifi County, Kenya.
Margaret’s work focuses on understanding the relationship between social, political, and commercial determinants of nutrition and health outcomes of vulnerable population groups. Her overarching goal is to contribute to impactful research that prompts the development and implementation of interventions and policies promoting healthy and nutritious diets and sustainable food systems for improved human and planetary health.
