Mahamadou Ousseini Djibo

Masters Fellow, Epicentre, Niger

My name is Mahamadou Ousseini Djibo, and I hold a Bachelor’s degree in Biochemistry from Abdou Moumouni University in Niamey. I currently serve as a Laboratory Technician at the Epicentre Research Center in Maradi.

Throughout my career, I have contributed to several major vaccine trials, both in Niger and the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC). These include research on a pneumococcal vaccine administered in fractional doses during mass vaccination campaigns in Niger, and a trial evaluating a measles vaccine in the DRC.

I also took part in a multicenter, randomized, controlled, non-inferiority trial comparing the efficacy, safety, and tolerability of artemisinin-based triple therapies versus standard ACT treatments plus placebo, for uncomplicated Plasmodium falciparum malaria. This work was carried out at the Integrated Health Center (CSI) of Andoumé in the Maradi region.

In response to the COVID-19 pandemic, I was involved in viral diagnostics at the National Virology Laboratory of CERMES. I am certified in Good Clinical Practice (GCP) and Good Laboratory Practice (GLP) through trainings conducted by various United Nations and European organizations.

Alongside my professional duties, I am pursuing a Master’s degree in Molecular and Medical Biology at the University of Abomey-Calavi in Benin, supported by a scholarship from the IDeAL project. My research investigates the phenotypic and genotypic mechanisms of resistance to third-generation cephalosporins and quinolones in Escherichia coli and Klebsiella pneumoniae isolated from clinical samples—including urine, cerebrospinal fluid, and blood cultures—collected in the Maradi region between 2019 and 2023.

Outside of work, I enjoy hiking, playing football, and organizing family outings.
