John Magudha
Masters Fellow
John is an MSc. fellow sponsored by the Initiative to Develop African Research Leaders (IDeAL) at the KEMRI-Wellcome Trust Research Programme (KWTRP). He has a strong background in Molecular Biology, Bioinformatics, and Microbiology. His current research focuses on optimisation of Next Generation Sequencing (NGS) workflows for malaria drug resistance surveillance, where he’s exploring various sample pooling strategies for cost-effective, timely and high throughput surveillance of P. falciparum drug resistance markers. Under the mentorship of Prof. Isabella Oyier and Dr. Joel Bargul, John is committed to translating research findings into actionable health policies and making tremendous contributions to global health research. His primary research interests lie in the molecular epidemiology of Plasmodium falciparum, with a particular focus on leveraging molecular tools to track antimalarial and diagnostic resistance.
