My name is Hassane Fatimata. I am a PhD student at Abdou Moumouni University in Niamey, enrolled in the Doctoral School of Life and Health Sciences. I hold a Master’s degree in Medical Microbiology (with a focus on Bacteriology and Virology) from the Catholic University of West Africa (UCAO) in Bobo-Dioulasso, and I specialize in the study of infectious diseases, particularly viral infections. After completing my degree, I joined the Centre de Recherche Médicale et Sanitaire (CERMES), where I contributed to a study on the performance of SARS-CoV-2 antigen rapid diagnostic tests, in collaboration with the NGO Solthis. I later became involved in respiratory virus surveillance within the virology unit at CERMES, where I continue to work today. To strengthen my technical skills, I completed genomic sequencing training at the Institut Pasteur in Dakar and CERMES. Passionate about virology, I also obtained a certification in viral hepatitis during a program organized by Assaut Hépatite in Bobo-Dioulasso.
My current doctoral research focuses on the seroprevalence of hepatitis B and E among pregnant women in Niger, a vulnerable and understudied population. I have submitted a systematic review article titled “Hepatitis B Virus Infection and Risk Factors among Pregnant Women in West Africa: A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis” to BioMed Research International, which is currently under peer review.
