I am a PhD student at KEMRI-Wellcome Trust, Kilifi. My research focuses on uncovering the causes of undifferentiated febrile illnesses by applying next-generation sequencing and bioinformatics to identify pathogens, including arboviruses like dengue and chikungunya. This work aims to improve diagnostic accuracy, provide improved understanding of the burden and diversity of pathogens causing undifferentiated fevers and inform public health responses.
I hold an MSc in Molecular Biology & Genomics from the Institute of Genomics and Global Health, Redeemer’s University, Nigeria (World Bank ACE IMPACT project), where my research determined the genetic diversity and resistance markers of Plasmodium falciparum in children with uncomplicated malaria. I also have a BSc in Biochemistry from Pwani University. My core interests lie at the intersection of molecular parasitology, pathogen genomics, and public health, driven by a commitment to leveraging genomic tools for infectious disease research, surveillance, and control.
