Dolapo Damilare

Masters in Immunology Fellow

Dolapo Damilare Olugbile earned his bachelor’s degree in Biomedical Laboratory Science from the College of Medicine, University of Ibadan, Nigeria, where he graduated as the top student in his department and faculty, receiving first-class honours along with several academic and leadership awards. After completing his national youth service as a Research and Teaching Assistant in the Medical Laboratory Science Programme, he was recommended for the position of Assistant Lecturer at Bowen University, Nigeria, where he engaged in teaching and research.

Dolapo is a member of the International Society for Antiviral Research (ISAR), the American Society for Microbiology (ASM), and the Federation of Clinical Immunology Societies (FOCIS). He is also a fellow of the American Society for Microbiology Future Leaders Mentorship Fellowship (FLMF) and a recipient of the African Vaccine Academy Programme Scholarship in 2024. Being part of international communities has provided him with the opportunity to collaborate with other scientists in the field of microbial science. He has also presented academic papers at conferences such as the American Society for Microbiology (ASM MICROBES) Annual Scientific Conference in Washington, DC, and the Annual Biomedical Research Conference for Minoritised Scientists (ABRCMS) in Anaheim, California, with publications in peer-reviewed journals. The lack of vaccine manufacturing in Africa impedes disease elimination, leaving African populations vulnerable to outbreaks of many diseases. This striking reality continues to motivate him, and he is deeply passionate about the eradication of communicable diseases in Africa through innovative vaccine research.

Dolapo is currently an MSc student in Immunology jointly based in Pwani University and Kemri-Wellcome Trust Research Programme jointly funded by Kemri-Wellcome Trust Research Programme (KWTRP) and Initiative to Develop African Research Leaders (IDeAL).
