Masters in Bioinformatics Fellow
Gervas Alexander Chacha is a visiting master`s student at the KEMRI-Wellcome Trust Research Programme (KWTRP), pursuing an MSc in Bioinformatics at Pwani University. He holds a BSc in Biotechnology and Laboratory Sciences from the Sokoine University of Agriculture in Tanzania. Prior to joining Pwani, Mr. Chacha served as a Lab scientist under the Malaria Molecular Surveillance Study at the National Institute for Medical Research in Tanzania.
His research interests include genomic epidemiology of infectious diseases and the impact of pathogens’ and vectors’ evolution on control interventions. Here at KWTRP, he is working on Antimalarial drug resistance monitoring in Kwale County, evaluating the resistance profiles of different antimalarial drug regimens, the complexity of infections, and malaria parasite gene diversity. He has published 7 papers in peer-reviewed journals and has participated in various training sessions, conferences, and workshops that have shaped his career development. He aspires to bridge the gap between wet-lab and dry-lab research while advancing scientific knowledge that positively impacts society.
