Loice Kanda is a Master’s graduate fellow with a keen interest in vaccinology and infectious disease research. She holds a bachelor’s degree in medical laboratory sciences from Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology and is currently pursuing a master’s degree in molecular biology and bioinformatics, under the Initiative to Develop African Research Leaders (IDeAL) and supported through the Sub-Saharan African Network for TB/HIV Research Excellence (SANTHE).

Her research centers on profiling naïve B cell subsets to understand how their repertoire features may influence responses to germline-targeting (GT) HIV vaccines. By analyzing the diversity of the naive repertoire, Loice seeks to inform the design of germline-targeting vaccines to prime the most relevant subsets within the repertoire. This approach improves the efficacy of vaccines and informs vaccination strategies across different populations.

Loice is passionate about using her molecular and bioinformatics skills in conducting impactful research for discoveries that translate into real-world health solutions. She also acknowledges the importance of science communication in research and strives to make scientific knowledge more understandable and relevant to society. She is always eager to engage in collaborative and mentorship partnerships with like-minded researchers.

Beyond science, Loice enjoys spending time outdoors and never misses the chance to admire a beautiful garden.
